Briefly

It was a gloriously melty week and the snow in the garden was getting thin. I was hoping to see the ground soon. Yesterday it rained and we even had a thunderstorm. And then this morning I woke up to this:

snowy street
Evidence of spring’s cruelty

Close to five inches of wet, heavy snow. Most of the week ahead is forecast to not be above freezing. It’s going to be awhile longer before I see my garden beds. Sigh.

That’s it for today. I am having lots of thoughts but nothing is cohering at the moment, so best to wait instead of writing something half-baked. I’m blaming the snow.

That’s so depressing, but it’s similar to here in Scotland, we don’t have snow but it’s around -5 C overnight and we have thick ice on the water in the garden all day. It has been a very long winter.

  2. I have a photograph that once belonged to my grandmother, a very small palm-of-hand sized image that I collected (i.e. stole) from her collection when I was a girl because it showed her backyard just buried in snow, scribbled March 17th on the back of it, a fresh snowfall that likely left her feeling the same way you’ve described here.
